How to Brew Homemade Beer at Home
To start with there are many things to take into consideration. How a homebrewer brews
isn't exactly the same as in commercial brewing applications.
First we don't have to exactly worry about consistency everytime. Our beers aren't going to the masses,
They will mostly only be consumed by us.
As Inbev has proved this isn't a bad thing at all. seems as of latley there quality has gone down hill. i
fear that it's some of the cost cutting ingredients that have made this happen. As Homebrewers those fears don't
reside with us.
One question you should first ask yourself is, Should I start Extract or All Grain?
This is a good question and for my money I will say that All Grain isn't really any harder then cooking a
recipe. It is a process that shouldn't be over thought. An example would be a simple soup Recipe. You stew your
meat and your ingredients over a certain period of time to make your soup.
In a way that is what you are doing in the brewing process. We heat our strike water that we have predefined. We
have our measured grains pre-crushed, we add our strike water at the right temps to get to our temp. Let it Steep
for 1 hour and fraw off till its clear.
Into our pot, bring to rolling boil and add our hops in diffrent stages. If you can make a pot of soup, So can
you make beer in the same example. Nothing to hard, nothing really diffucult. Just knowing your volumes and your
recipe.
Brewing equipment can be obtained easily, and not to expensive on the pocketbook as well. You need a good size
brewpot, A Measuring cup at least 2 liters big. Spoons, Hydrometer to measure your brews gravity, A Mash Tun that
you can make yourself from a cooler.
The most expensive part of All Grain and brewing in general will be your start up. But once you do and
see how rewarding it is. You will never look back.
It is possible to start brewing beer at home for a few hundred dollars. And then take it from there. Ingredients
can be sourced cheap. I personnaly buy everything in bulk which you should consider once you get started.
Especially considering that your costs are about 50 cents a Pint or glass of awesome beer. It's a great
hobby and has given me about 20 years of joy. I hope it will be the same for you.
Or if nothing else, You just understand some of the process.
