A Munich Helles is a blonde beer originating in Munich around 1928. It
uses noble hops to develop a lightly hopped character. It is similar to a
Bohemian Pilsener, slightly darker, same approximate alcohol and less
bitterness. It emphasizes hop flavor and aroma in this style to balance the
maltiness that should be apparent. This is light bodied beer with slight
head retention and high carbonation.
This is one of my personal favorite styles of German Lager.
This is also known as Paulaner's Original Munich. A Helle's is usually
made from 3 types of malt. Pilsner,Munich and Vienna.
You want to go heavier on the Munich of course. You should get the
toasty flavour from the Munich malt.
It is a very well balanced with a reminisant sweetness and toasty
flavour toward the finish.
Defiantly a beer to make at home.
